Amazon.com Inc. has made strides toward a second facility to supplement its existing footprint within a Lenexa industrial park.
The Lenexa Planning Commission earlier this month approved a final plat for a 142,776-square-foot Amazon delivery station and 984 parking spaces on 29.9 acres within Lenexa Logistics Centre North, at 17800 College Blvd.
City staff also approved a final plan for the new facility and currently are undergoing building permit review.
At Amazon's delivery stations, workers prepare orders for last-mile delivery to customers, according to the company's website.
In 2014, the Seattle-based e-commerce giant (Nasdaq: AMZN) opened a 267,000-square-foot fulfillment center within Lenexa Logistics Park South, a Block Real Estate Services LLC development at 113th Street and Renner Boulevard that sorts already-packaged items.
As of last fall, Block Real Estate Services had developed about 50% of the land it owns within that corridor, spread over 118.5 acres within Lenexa Logistics Centre North, South and East.
Fully built out, the $100 million industrial park is expected to house about 1.6 million square feet of industrial space.
