With a ceremonial first turn of the soil, September 24, 2014 marked the official start of construction at Block Real Estate Services’ CityPlace, a mixed use development in Overland Park, Kansas. CityPlace will feature Class A office buildings, multi-family residences, retail services, restaurants and senior living, all connected in one vibrant and energetic community.
A standing-room only crowd gathered for the ceremonial groundbreaking surrounded by a soybean field
that will yield its last harvest, as construction crews get to work on the roads and infrastructure at
CityPlace. Kansas Congressman Kevin Yoder, Overland Park Mayor Carl Gerlach and Overland Park
Chamber President Tracey spoke of the significant development that is expected to attract millennials
and empty nesters, alike.
Bordered by Interstate 435, U.S. 69 and College Boulevard, CityPlace offers easy access for commuters.
The development features four office buildings totaling 600,250 square feet on 26 acres, 1,382 multi-
family units on 39 acres, 39,860 square feet of retail space on 6 acres and 140 senior living units.
“We are truly thrilled to break ground today on this exciting development and all that it means for connecting the metro to the center of Overland Park and to CityPlace,” said CityPlace developer Ken Block. “As a premier mixed-use development, CityPlace will offer an unparalleled list of amenities for both our tenants and our residents.”
The dignitaries and guests attending the groundbreaking were most excited about the addition of Class A office space, which is sorely needed in the area, as well as the resort-like amenities planned for the multi-family residences. CityPlace residents will enjoy a state-of-the-art fitness center, a heated salt water swimming pool with a sun terrace and outdoor spa. The pampering will continue with lounges, shaded cabanas and a yoga/meditation studio with a private massage room and a host of many more amenities for the residents. All residences will also be smart wired for phone, Internet and cable and will have USB charging ports.
The first phase of construction on the Residences at CityPlace will begin in November 2014 with projected occupancy to begin by spring 2016. The first building in the Offices at CityPlace is anticipated to be under construction some time in 2015 based upon market demand.
